The Accounting Department at UW-Whitewater provides a robust education designed to prepare students for successful careers across various sectors of the profession, including public accounting, corporate accounting, and not-for-profit accounting. This program is part of the College of Business and Economics (CoBE), which holds prestigious accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Notably, the accounting program has earned separate AACSB accreditation, a distinction achieved by only 2% of business schools worldwide.

Programs:

  1. Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting
    1. This undergraduate program equips students with a comprehensive foundation in accounting principles, auditing, taxation, and financial reporting. The curriculum meets the requirements to sit for the CPA exam and serves as a pathway to other professional certifications.
    2. Students gain practical experience through internships and collaborations with industry professionals.
  2. Accounting Minor
    1. A flexible option for non-accounting majors seeking foundational knowledge in accounting to complement their primary field of study.

Major Requirements:

  • An accounting major may repeat no more than two accounting courses without permission from the Accounting Department
  • An accounting major may take a maximum of 3 accounting courses in a single semester and no more than 9 credits of ACCOUNT total. If a student takes ACCOUNT 493 as their only accounting course in a semester, it may be taken for up to 12 credits.

Additional Opportunities and Highlights:

  • The Accounting program has earned the accounting accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This has only been achieved by the top 2 percent of the world’s business schools that have also earned the AACSB business accreditation.
  • Professional Licensure: While the BBA program prepares students to sit for the CPA exam, the CPA requires 150 credits to be licensed. Many students pursue an MBA or second major to meet the 150-credit requirement.
