Courses are offered in Spring semester only

First Year Advising Notes: Students must obtain a C- or better in Physics and Biology in order to meet admission requirements for the Communication Sciences and Disorders program. Although not required, we highly recommend taking a minor. Goals: Students are encouraged to engage in undergraduate research and study abroad or travel study.

Second Year Advising Notes: To be admitted into higher level COMDIS classes, a student must apply for admission for the Communication Sciences and Disorders program. Admission requirements are: combined cumulative GPA of 2.75, 45 completed credits, completion of PHYSCS 240 with a C- or better and completion of BIOLOGY 120 with a C- or better, completion of COMDIS 270, and a 3.00 or better in COMDIS 278, COMDIS 272, and COMDIS 240. If you are a PSYCH minor, take the PSYCH classes to meet your unique requirements. Students that meet all minimum requirements will be admitted to Upper Division courses. Goals: If you intend to study abroad, consider going in the spring semester of your junior year. Talk to your professors about undergraduate research opportunities. Start thinking about what graduate programs you might like to apply to.

Courses require Admission to the Communication Sciences and Disorders program. You will not be allowed to register for these courses without applying and being admitted to the Communication Sciences and Disorders program.

Third Year Advising Notes: EDFOUND 243 is preferred if you want to be licensed to work in schools.

Goals: Complete your graduate school applications during the summer after your third year and decide who you would like to ask to write your letters of recommendation for graduate school. The UWW Masters program in Communication Sciences and Disorders does not require the GRE for admission, however, students will want to research whether or not this is a requirement for other graduate school programs so that they can plan accordingly.

After your third year: Work with your faculty advisor to make sure you’re on track to graduate. Continue to seek major-related employment.

Courses require Admission to the Communication Sciences and Disorders program. You will not be allowed to register for these courses without applying and being admitted to the Communication Sciences and Disorders program.

Fourth Year Advising Notes: Apply for graduation online through the Registrar’s Office one full semester before you anticipate graduating.

Goals: Work with Career Service Office to perfect your resume and cover letter, and start getting your applications out. Attend networking events, career fairs, and employer information meetings. Talk to everyone you meet about your career goals and ambitions–you never know where a great opportunity might come from. Read professional journals and consider a student membership in a professional organization.

Students must begin their Math and English sequences with the appropriate course. The English course a student starts with will be determined by their ACT English or SAT Verbal score. The Math course a student starts with will be determined by their UW System math placement score.

Admission requirements: combined cumulative GPA of 2.75, 45 completed credits, completion of PHYSCS 130, PHYSCS 212, or PHYSCS 240 with a C- or better and completion of BIOLOGY 120 with a C- or better, completion of COMDIS 270, and a 3.00 or better in COMDIS 278, COMDIS 272, and COMDIS 240.

Students who complete the Communication Sciences and Disorders Bachelor of Science degree will receive the academic and pre-professional training necessary for more specialized study at the graduate level. A graduate degree is required to work in most settings as a speech- language pathologist or audiologist. The undergraduate program’s focus on human development and disability also provides a solid academic foundation for students who wish to pursue other related careers in human services.

This program does not require completion of a minor. However, it is recommended that students complete a minor that they enjoy and/or matches their career interests and will contribute to their marketability after graduation. Students can choose any minor offered at UW-Whitewater, but should consult an advisor concerning minor options.
