Library Science Certificate Requirements
The Library Science Certificate is designed for students who plan to apply for Grade 2 or 3 public library director certification with DPI. Students must already hold a bachelor’s degree. This certificate does not lead to any kind of teacher licensure. This Grade 2 or 3 certification allows the holder to work as a public library director in a community of under 6,000 people. Larger library systems also seek out staff members with this certification. Students may use this certificate to begin their library science journey and get practical library experience, and then go on to earn a Master’s in Library Science from another institution (UW Madison or Milwaukee, if staying in state).
