Race and Ethnic Studies is an interdisciplinary area that explores knowledge about First Nations Peoples and Americans of African, Asian/Asian American, Latina/o/e/x and and Latinx/Latin American descent. It examines their experiences, roles, and achievements through courses in disciplines as varied as history, literature, sociology, political science, music, women’s and gender studies, geography, and philosophy and religious studies. Assessing past and current theories and research about race and ethnicity, Race and Ethnic Studies also contributes theoretical and practical knowledge for students of all backgrounds. It provides a valuable interdisciplinary perspective on the major academic disciplines as well.

Race and Ethnic Studies courses are open to students in all curricula, some as general education courses, some as general electives. New courses with a focus on race and ethnicity are being developed, and existing courses are being offered on a rotating basis. Students should obtain the most recent lists from the Race and Ethnic Studies Program Coordinator.
