Overview

In the field of chemistry, it is often common for instructors of lower-level courses at a 2- or 4-year institution (including technical colleges) to have a bachelor's degree in chemistry or chemistry education and a master's degree in education, with few (if any) graduate-level chemistry courses. These instructors now need to pursue graduate-level chemistry coursework in order to meet the requirements of the bodies that accredit their institution, thus retaining their positions.
