Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education Requirements (BSE)

The Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education major is designed for students who wish to teach young children, with and without disabilities, from birth through age eight. This program leads to licensure in Early Childhood Special Education and Birth - Grade Three. There is no minor required for this major. Students enter the EC/ECSE program as a cohort group during the Spring term. Students interested in this program should apply for admission to Professional Education for the fall term. Students will be admitted to the EC/ECSE program once a year.

GPA requirements:

  • to graduate from the College of Education and Professional Studies, students in a BSE licensure major must have at least a combined GPA of 2.75; and
  • students must maintain a content area GPA of at least 3.0 across the following courses or pass the state superintendent-approved standardized test for the early childhood special education license. Courses that count toward content area GPA include: a) English: six credits of which three credits must be English composition; b) Social Studies: six credits of which three credits must be humanities and three credits from social sciences; c) Science: four credits of lab science; d) Mathematics: three credits of College Algebra or its equivalent.
