Athletic Counseling Certificate Requirements

The Athletic Counseling graduate certificate is designed for students pursuing the Association for Applied Sport Psychology's (AASP) Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) credential. The eight required knowledge areas for certification are covered within the coursework and students have the opportunity to earn mentored experience hours during their practicum or internship. The minimum requirements for admission to the Athletic Counseling Certificate are: 

  1. Currently Enrolled in a Master's Degree Program or a previously completed Master's Degree in a related field from an accredited college/university. 

  2. Completion of one, three unit, undergraduate or graduate General Psychology or Lifespan course. 

Official transcripts confirming degree conferral and prerequisite coursework are required.

Completion of this certificate does not guarantee CMPC certification. Students must accumulate the required mentored experience hours (some can accomplish this during the practicum or internship) and pass the certifying exam.
