Clinical Mental Health Counseling Certificate Requirements

The graduate certification in clinical mental health counseling (CMHC) is designed for individuals who have a Master's degree in Counseling (e.g., school counseling or community counseling) from a CACREP-accredited institution (or equivalent). We recommend that applicants obtain a report from the Department of Safety and Professional Studies which highlights unmet licensure requirements before applying to the program. We will utilize that report and the academic backgrounds of applicants in preparing their program of study. The internship will be one or two semesters depending on the needs of the student, as determined by the Counselor Education faculty. Students who have had a year-long internship in their master’s program and  sufficient counseling experience with mental health populations will only be required to participate in a one semester Internship.
