INTRNAR 200   ISSUES IN INTERNATIONAL STUDIES: INQUIRY AND WRITING IN THE MAJOR   3 Units

Introduction to International Studies is the gateway course to the major. It is a writing-intensive course that will help students develop the communication and critical analysis skills necessary to succeed in higher-level courses in their emphases. It also introduces them to career options to students with International Studies degrees.
PREREQ: INTERNATIONAL STUDIES MAJOR OR MINOR OR CONSENT OF INSTRUCTOR

INTRNAR 260   INTRODUCTION TO LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES (GI)   3 Units

This course offers a broad interdisciplinary tour of contemporary Latin America drawing ideas on material from history, art, anthropology, political science and literature. The three main themes of the course are the historical roots of Latin America's cultural identities, the importance of modern social movements in confronting persistent inequalitites, and the way immigration has shaped the region.

INTRNAR 348   INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS   3 Units

The course will explore theoretical perspectives as well as the expanding roles of international organizations in the context of global politics. Since the end of the Cold War, the United Nations and other regional organizations have played an enhanced role in global governance. It will, therefore, provide an overview of the United Nations system, a number of regional ogranizations and their contributions to the maintenance of international peace and security.
PREREQ: 3 CREDITS OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

INTRNAR 488   TOPICS IN INTERNATIONAL STUDIES   Repeatable   3 Units

An intensive study of selected topics in International Studies. Subject matter will vary depending on the department and faculty member responsible for the course. Repeatable for a maximum of 6 credits in major/degree (for different topics only).

INTRNAR 493   INTERNSHIP IN INTERNATIONAL AND AREA STUDIES   Repeatable   1-12 Units

Study and work with an international unit or in some area of public affairs under the direction of a faculty supervisor. Students will have the opportunity to combine academic learning with practical experience in government and politics. Repeatable for a maximum of 12 credits in major/degree.

INTRNAR 494   SEMINAR   Repeatable   1-3 Units

An intensive study of selected topics in international studies that supplements the curriculum. Subject matter may vary depending on the needs and desires of the participants.

INTRNAR 496   SPECIAL STUDIES   Repeatable   1-3 Units

Variable topics. Group activity. Not offered regularly in the curriculum but offered on topics selected on the basis of timeliness, need, and interest, and generally in the format of regularly scheduled Catalog offerings.
