SPECFLD 410   GENERAL EDUCATION FIELD EXPERIENCES   2 Units

This pre-student teaching provides students with experience in a general education classroom where inclusionary practices for individuals with special needs are applied including opportunities to become familiar with the range of students' abilities, curricular focus, achievement expectations, enhancements, adaptations, and modifications of instruction; and collaborative practices of general and special educators. A minimum of 96 hours of field experience is completed.

SPECFLD 485   SPECIALIZED FIELD WORK: CROSS CATEGORICAL FIELD WORK   2 Units

This field experience provides an opportunity to work with students with disabilities and qualify for special education, including students with autism, emotional/behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, and learning disabilities, and to apply knowledge and develop skills within specialized programs. This two-unit field experience provides a pre-clinical experience designed to prepare the student for student teaching. Students complete projects and practice teaching skills. This course is an opportunity to help students process what they are learning about teaching, themselves, learners, curriculum, and the social milieu in which teaching occurs.

SPECFLD 489   STUDENT TEACHING CROSS CATEGORICAL SPECIAL EDUCATION   1-12 Units

The focus of this course is to support teacher candidates in using assessments, applying evidence-based practices in instruction, behavior management, working with families and community agencies, gaining experience with diverse learners with disabilities, experience different service delivery models across the special education continuum, and reflect on how, when, and why specific evidence-based practices are implemented. Teacher candidates will explore respective roles and responsibilities of special education personnel. Teacher candidates will complete all special education department requirements.
