LEA 101   Academic Reading   3 Units

An Intro to Indp. academic reading at a college level. Emphasizes strategies for increasing comprehension, varying reading rate, & developing critical reading skills. Focuses on assignments & activities that help students achieve the learning outcomes for first-year Comp. & other difficult reading-intensive courses that require students to write about nonfiction reading.

LEA 102   Learning Skills   1-3 Units

A workshop or discussion course that helps students develop college-level learning skills. Campuses may offer a general academic skills class or focus a section of LEA 102 on a specific area of college learning. Emphases may include managing time, using technology for academic learning, taking notes, studying textbooks, taking tests, developing an academic vocabulary, conducting & organizing research, thinking critically, working effectively in groups, & giving presentations.

LEA 103   College Reading and Study Strategies   1-3 Units

A reading-intensive course that that helps students develop effective strategies for reading textbooks & nonfiction texts, taking notes, studying for exams, & taking tests.

LEA 104   Career Planning and Preparation   1-3 Units

This course will enable students to develop career goals & lay out a path for achieving these goals. Students will examine their personal interests, aptitudes, values, decision making skills, academic plans, & career awareness. This personal, educational, & occupational Info will then be organized & translated into an individualized course of action. Integration of career goals with current & future college course work will be stressed.

LEA 110   TRIO Writing Studio   1-3 Units

A workshop or tutorial course that provides individualized & small group instruction to help students develop college-level reading & writing skills. Taken concurrently with a Comp. course or other writing-intensive class. This course is offered by a campus TRIO program. TRIO students only.

LEA 116   English as a Second Language   1-3 Units

A program dealing with English as a second language for students whose native language is not English. The program is designed to assist foreign students in improving their skills in spoken & written English for successful academic work at the university level. This course is offered by the campus TRIO/student support services program.

LEA 120   Intermediate Compostion Tutorial   1-3 Units

A tutorial that provides individualized instruction to help students complete the core writing requirement, develop critical reading skills, successfully complete college-level writing based on sources, & use flexible strategies for Indp.ly engaging in the writing process. Taken concurrently with a degree-credit Comp. course after the first college Sem..
